Wrestling Superstar Is The Next KFC Colonel

KFC is teaming with WWE on the food chain's ongoing campaign, in which celebrities play the iconic KFC Colonel.

Yep, the next Colonel is a wrestling superstar, although he had to smack down a number of wannabe Colonels from the WWE to get the role.

With the help of KFC’s creative agency, Wieden & Kennedy, and media agency, Spark Foundry, WWE and KFC produced a live stunt during SummerSlam on August 20 that was transformed into a two-minute video.

The creative features WWE performers Dolph Ziggler, Enzo Amore, Goldust, Beckly Lynch and The Big Show attending an "audition" and stating their reasons they should become the next Colonel. Soon, they start play-fighting and arguing over who is the best person for the job.

The ad ends by revealing WWE Superstar Shawn Michaels — known as “The Heartbreak Kid” — as the next Colonel. The big reveal was filmed live during the SummerSlam tournament.

The clip runs across KFC’s global digital and social assets and will air at WWE live events in September and October. WWE talent will begin promoting the KFC tie-in today on its social channels.

This is the second year WWE and KFC have joined forces for a cobranded stunt. In 2016, WWE's Dolph Ziggler, acting as Colonel Sanders, and The Miz as the Chicken battled it out in the SummerSlam ring.
