Adam Gerber Returns To Agency World After Decade-Plus Hiatus

WPP’s Essence has appointed agency veteran Adam Gerber to the new position of senior vice president, investment, North America. He will be based at the agency’s office in New York.

Gerber is tasked with evolving the agency’s media strategy and buying capabilities, following GroupM’s commitment to transform Essence into a data-driven full service agency.

As part of his remit, Gerber will work to develop new investment models rooted in data and solutions-based outcomes, as well as expand relationships Essence has built with digital platforms to a broader set of media companies.

Gerber will report to both Christian Juhl, global CEO of Essence, and Lyle Schwartz, managing partner at GroupM.

For Gerber, joining Essence marks the end of a 12-year hiatus from the agency world, which included stints at both Publicis Groupe’s MediaVest and WPP’s MEC.

Most recently, Gerber served as senior vice president, client development and communications at ABC.  While there, he led sales development across linear and digital offerings and was also involved in new measurement, data and effectiveness work.

Earlier, he was vice president, ad products and strategy at Brightcove, a video-platform company, and CMO of Quantcast, a data and targeting platform.

“Adam’s extensive background lends itself to understanding both sides of the business,” stated Juhl. “This is extremely important, given our full-service offering. As media continues its transition to addressable, data-driven solutions, our mission of ‘making advertising more valuable to the world’ is increasingly critical.”
