Some Twitter Users Willing To Pay $4 For The Service

A pricing model for Twitter suggests some users would be willing to pay on average between $4 and $4.50 to use the service, although it’s not clear whether or not a subscription service would help sell advertising, search, video or others types, on the site.

A Morning Consult poll of 2,200 U.S. adults found that among the 733 Twitter users who participated in the survey, those ages 18 to 29 and 30 to 44 were most likely to consider subscribing to Twitter, with 27% of each age group saying they would “definitely” or “maybe” pay for the social media service.

Most users say they would likely not pay to use Twitter, but those ages 18 to 44 say they most likely would. Some 58% of all users who participated in the poll said they would not pay to use Twitter, and 17% of those ages 30 to 44 said they would definitely pay.

The poll also shows that those ages 18 to 29 who use Facebook, Twitter, Snap and Instagram say they value Twitter the most, with 15% admitting they would give up the platform if they had to choose among the four. Some 34% are willing to give up Facebook, while 23% would choose Snap and 20% would choose Instagram.

The poll also shows that 14% of 18- to-29-year-old Twitter users said they used it mostly for work -- the highest rate compared with Instagram, Facebook and Snap.

Twitter has about 134 million daily active users. Pew Research Center also did a study on Twitter users. Some 2,791 U.S. adults participated in the study. All were Twitter users willing to share their Twitter handles.

The study revealed that U.S. adult Twitter users are younger and more likely to be Democrats than the general public. Most users rarely tweet. About 10% of users create 80% of tweets in the U.S.

Those who tweet often are more likely to be women and are more likely to say they regularly tweet about politics.

Overall, Twitter users are much younger than the average U.S adult and are also more likely than the general public to have a college degree. The median age is 40, while the median U.S. adult is 47 years old.

So, will Twitter be paying us $4 to $4.50 per day to read Tweets, or is that per-Tweet?  I think it would be more appealing if some sort of bonus is paid for having to read especially mindless Tweets.
