Horizon Media Is New Biz King For First Six Months

Independent media agency Horizon Media was the leader in net new business wins in the U.S. among media agencies for the first half of 2017, according to a new report from marketing and communications research firm COMvergence.

According to the report, the agency tallied just over $900 million in incremental billings during the period, led by its victory in the $690 million Sprint review.

The telecom giant awarded Horizon its business in May after a five-month review.

RPA, which recaptured the $600 million American Honda media assignment in January, was ranked No. 1 in the new business department for the first half.

Connect Powered By Publicis Media was third-ranked, driven by its selection to run the $465 million Molson Coors business.

Starcom placed fourth, with its capture of the $300 million Lowe’s media assignment in February, while MediaCom was fifth, having won Whole Foods, Walgreens Boots Alliance, Elizabeth Arden and Uniqlo in the U.S. Its tally does not include two big global wins it collected in July: Richemont and Revlon.

Earlier this month, COMvergence cited MediaCom as the winningest agency in global and regional pitches for the first half in a report that did not include U.S. reviews.

The latest report noted that U.S. reviews (formal or informal) of media accounts with billings of nearly $4.3 billion were completed in the first half of the year. Another $3 billion in assignments is currently in play, including AB-InBev, Amazon, United HealthCare, U.S. Army.
