Peter Rice Adds 21st Century Fox President Title

Peter Rice, chairman/CEO of Fox Networks Group, has been promoted. He adds the title of president of 21st Century Fox, which includes the Fox film business unit.

Rice will continue to oversee Fox Networks Group as chairman/CEO -- a position he has held since 2012, reporting to 21st Century Fox Executive Chairman Lachlan Murdoch and CEO James Murdoch.

Stacey Snider, chairman/CEO of 20th Century Fox Film, will continue to report directly to Lachlan and James Murdoch. Fox News Channel will also continue to report directly to Rupert Murdoch, executive chairman of 21st Century Fox, and executive chairman of Fox News Channel.

Rice has been credited with expanding Fox’s cable TV programming efforts. He oversaw the expansion of the FX group into three network cable entertainment groups -- FX, FXX, and FXM -- as well as the launch of sports cable channels FS1 and FS2.

He also had oversight for Fox’s digital media footprint across both linear and OTT platforms and led the creation of the Digital Consumer Group with authenticated streaming apps FoxNow, Fox Sports GO, FX Now and Nat Geo TV.

Rice’s major challenge, according to analysts, is returning Fox Broadcasting Network to top viewing status among the four major TV networks. It maintained its leading position for nearly a decade, mostly as a result of reality show “American Idol.”

Before his current position, Rice was chairman of entertainment for Fox Networks Group and chairman of entertainment, for Fox Broadcasting Company.

Rice also was president of Fox Searchlight Pictures. He also held senior executive positions in production and marketing for the Fox film business unit.
