Clear Channel, Mario Lopez Expand Partnership

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, formerly known as Clear Channel Radio, and ubiquitous entertainment personality Mario Lopez announced that they are renewing and expanding their long-term partnership, with a number of new high-profile projects and appearances. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under the terms of their renewed long-term deal, Lopez and his wife and co-host Courtney will begin hosting the weekend iHeartRadio Countdown on Clear Channel stations with the Hot Adult Contemporary format.

Each week, the program will feature a different celebrity guest to help count down the top 20 AC songs from the iHeartRadio “Ultimate” chart. The Ultimate chart is based on aggregation of iHeartRadio airplay, top weekly songs and artists from user-generated iHeartRadio Custom stations, and social and sales data, among other factors. The countdown will also be accessible on the iHeartRadio Web site and mobile app.

Lopez will also work with Clear Channel on events, including the 2014 iHeartRadio Music Festival, scheduled for the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Sept. 19-20.

The couple will also continue to host “On with Mario Lopez,” their weekly celebrity chat and music show launched with national syndication by Premiere Networks in 2012, which airs on 60 stations across the U.S. Clear Channel noted that nationwide listening for the program among women ages 25-54 increased 67% over the last year, and 58% among women ages 18-49.

The Clear Channel duties are just a few of the telegenic star’s many media commitments.

In addition to hosting celebrity news and gossip program Extra TV, last year Lopez entered into a development deal with NUVOtv, an English-language cable TV network targeting bicultural U.S. Hispanics. The deal included a second season of “Mario Lopez One-on-One,” as well as a number of new programs.
