Cancer Treatment Centers Enlist Christina Applegate

Actress Christina Applegate is appearing in an ad campaign for Stand Up To Cancer and the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

The print, radio and digital effort highlights the ways that friends and family can provide support to a loved one diagnosed with cancer. Creative takes the theme “When You Don't Know What to Say, Stand Up.” It encourages friends and family members to visit showthatyoucare.org, a Web site that offers suggestions and tips to comfort and support newly diagnosed loved ones.

Applegate is a cancer survivor.

"I know firsthand how important it is to have a strong support system," Applegate says in a release. "It was a sense of community that helped me, as well as many others, get through a time that is never easy. Each of us has the power to support and fight."

Applegate’s personal story is “incredibly powerful and a source of hope for those in the same situation,” says Rusty Robertson, a co-founder of Stand Up To Cancer.

“This collaboration with Cancer Treatment Centers of America will be a great resource for anyone that is dealing with the anxiety, distress and grief associated with a cancer diagnosis," Robertson says.

The ad features the message: "When someone you love is diagnosed with cancer, you have the power to help. There are many ways you can stand up and show that you care."

The collaborative campaign represents the continued dedication to empower cancer patients and their loved ones by both Stand Up To Cancer and Cancer Treatment Centers of America. In March 2012, SU2C and CTCA collaborated on an ad entitled "QN2A, Better Questions, Better Care," which focused on the importance of patient empowerment when confronted with a cancer diagnosis.

The effort is being promoted online at showthatyoucare.org, on Facebook at @StandUpToCancer and on Twitter at @SU2C.
