Vero Raises $4M, Australia Hotbed For Email

Another email marketing startup is standing out in the land down under.

Vero announced its first round of funding on Monday, raising $4 million from Australian venture capital firm Square Peg Capital to expand its data and email marketing business.

Founded in 2012, Vero helps more than 250 online businesses communicate with their customers with automated and personalized email campaigns. The company’s platform streamlines communications across departments so that engineering, marketing and sales teams can share customer data and collaborate on email messages.

Vero is headquartered in Sydney, but its customers are derived from across Australia, the United States, and Europe. With the added financing, the company plans to accelerate business growth and potentially open up additional offices.

Australia has become a hotbed of email marketing technology. Vision6, an email marketing automation platform, was established in Sydney in 2001 and now counts Audi Sydney, BMW Brisbane, and the Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (RSCPA) as clients. Campaign Monitor was founded in 2000 by two University of Wallongong students in New South Wales, Australia, and has since grown to count leading brands like Coca-Cola and BuzzFeed as customers.

Marketing cloud vendors also see business growth potential in Australia, with IBM launching its fourth Australian data center in May. Oracle, Adobe, and Microsoft also support Australian marketers, and Salesforce partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to host its Customer Success Platform in AWS’ Sydney data centers.
