Email Security Firm Mimecast Opens Data Centers In Germany

Mimecast, an email security company, has opened two data centers in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, drawn by the country’s “cautious yet pragmatic approach to cloud,” states Mimecast CEO Peter Bauer.

The company’s cloud infrastructure and iMimeOS software architecture are designed to help clients comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

“Concerns remain over where data is stored and what happens when critical services like email fail, creating security risks and disrupting workplace productivity,” Bauer says. “Our new German data centers will allow us to help organizations adopt a cyber resilience strategy to secure, preserve and continue the flow of information via email.”

According to Mimecast, 48% of German organizations have seen an increase in malware and ransomware attacks through email attachments in the last 12 months. In addition, 35% have experienced a rise in impersonation fraud, in which employees are asked to make financial transactions.

Mazars, a tax advisory firm, is to using Mimecast in the hopes of creating a “first line of defense against growing volumes of ransomware and phishing attacks by email,” states Group Chief Information Security Officer Jayson Dudley.

Mimecast services support Microsoft Exchange, Office 365, Google and on-premise email environments, the firm says.
